In Real Estate, never pay a contractor before the work is done. In our Real Estate business, we sometimes pay for the materials and then pay the contractor labor only. In this model there is absolutely no reason to ever pay someone before the job is done. Does your employer pay you before you have worked the hours? Of course not! For larger scale Real Estate jobs, we will set milestones and pay a contractor as we go. Always inspect the work before you pay. Don’t just take the contractors word for it.

Home prices increase in many towns in Rhode Island

Is the news still telling you that Rhode Island Real Estate is in disrepair? According to the report release by the RI Statewide MLS, this may not be the case. Real Estate market across the state of Rhode Island do vary quite a bit. Some cities like Providence had over a 72% growth in median home sales from Q2 2009 to Q2 2010. Towns like West Greenwhich saw over a 53% drop in median sales prices of its homes. Cranston shows almost a 5% increase. Johnston remained steady at 0%. Barrington showed almost a 10% growth.

These number don’t always reflect the actual market conditions. Sometimes they reflect a period where different size/type homes are selling that drives the median price up or down. The important thing to remember is when you purchase a home, you want to make sure the price you pay is in line with other comparable prices in the neighborhood.
